Standards Based Grading
Every quiz that we have will be based on ONE learning standard. For example:
7.RP.1 Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or different units
All quizzes are out of a possible 4 points. Students will have the opportunity to retake quizzes as many times as needed. In order to retake a quiz, you must come see me during lunch, study hall or after school so that we can practice the skill and analyze and fix any mistakes before you retake the quiz. The purpose of standards based grading is to show students that it is OKAY to make mistakes. In fact, making mistakes provides us with more learning opportunities and actually helps us to master concepts. Students will be given a tracking sheet so they can keep track of all of their quiz scores. Students will be able to look back and see which standards they mastered right away and which standards needed more practice.
